Margaret “Peg” Grunert Obituary

LOWVILLE, NY- Margaret P. “Peg” Grunert, 89, died Sunday, August 31, 2025 in Lewis County Extended Care Facility where she had resided since 2019.

 

Born May 7, 1938 in County Clair, Ireland, a daughter of John and Mary Collins Walsh, she received her early education in Ireland, before coming to the US where she completed her schooling including college.

 

She married Edward W. Grunert on December 15, 1973. Mr. Grunert died on June 21, 2022.

 

She taught grade school in Kentucky and Maryland, and later came to New York where she worked as an IBM operator at the Royal Bank of Canada. She later moved to Watertown and worked as an IBM operator and bookkeeper for Marine Midland Bank, before eventually moving to Croghan where she worked for Key Bank.

 

She was a former parishioner of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan.

 

Surviving is her son Anthony C. Grunert, of Clay, NY; two sisters, Nora Martin, FL (formerly of Croghan) and Bridget Walsh, of England, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by five brothers, Michael, Thomas, James, Patrick and John, and four sisters, Joan, Mary, Lil and Anne.

 

Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, beginning with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Her interment in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan, will immediately follow.
